Ol' Rounder In The Iron Mask- 10-22-2004
seeing lost in translation on a big screen is the best thing to have happened to me since i got to uni. beautiful, beautiful film

ive joined the film society here, not usually being very good with films but always wanting to be, and have seen usual suspects (amazing ending), dogville (weird, but it's a short 3 hours), mystic river, the butterfly effect (improbable bullshit) and alien v predator (so crap it's actually ok...i love how they try to instill a bit of human pathos in something so obviously cold and distant as the predator. i thought there would be a bit of a romance...sigh, hollywood)

As did I, possibly leading on to a sequel set in a futuristic america where the bird in AVP gives birth to a half-man/half-predator that must deal with issues of prejudice on a day to day basis, much like so many of today's youths...Oh how he would yearn to make use of his self-destruct mechanism and end it all.

And speaking of self-destruct mechanisms - as i frequently do - i was appalled by the predator's use of his as a mere weapon in AVP, discarding of it by throwing it at the alien(s?).
I thought the Predator was a killing machine of honour, sacrificing it's life only when safe in the knowledge that it's enemy would too be meeting his or her own grizzly demise?

(Except Arnie of course, Arnie's the exception.)

Oriental Cinema? You have to see Audition. I won't give it away but you'll need a strong stomach to see it through to the end.

Ooh, AvP, I haven't seen it all the way through, but you've gotta love that 180 degree big jump and slash from out of the shot by the predator on the queen. If you've seen it you'll know what i'm on about

Saw 'All the president's men' for the first time today, and it really was quite amazing, though it all ended a bit too abruptly for my liking, even after 2 and a half hours, I still wanted to see more

Unless you're female - you'll love it. Oh, wait, they're all wussy, aren't they?

It is indeed a class act, up until seeing that film i had heard about the Watergate scandal but never actually known exactly what it was.
Cleared things up wonderfully, it did!

In other news, Keith Richards playing johnny depp's dad in the pirates of the caribbean sequel is one beauty of a casting decision. I reckon they should be locked in a room drinking rum for the entirety.

Interestingly, Johnny Depp said that his accent for the first one was based on Keef's 100-a-day drawl.

Speaking of 100-a-day, on a completely unconnected point, John Entwistle's grandfather used to smoke 200 fags per day. He had a special 4-in-1 holder to fit them all in.

He died of lung cancer.

Trust me, feminists don't watch films - too entertaining, so something must be wrong with it. After all, if feminist directors give us shite like In The Cut...what's that? The PC Brigade kicking down my door?

speaking of FENIMISM, or not at all - we watched ABOUT LAST NITE , er, last nite - what a simply dreadful thing! i couldn't imagine what they were trying to do//say. pretty bleak stuff.

i watched the shining on the big screen for halloween. no, as a film it's not actually that good, just jack nickleson is a complete tour de force. it's up there with robert de niro as travis bickle as a piece of empathetic character acting. it must have been utterly terrifying on set.
