Is anyone else seeing the adverts just below the main "Planet Sound" banner at the top?
'Public Service Ads by Google' etc
Buggers
aye, they all seem fairly good causes rather than adverts for sky though.
don't bother me muchly. Just don't let em have pop ups!
Weird.
The thing is, in the forum hosts FAQs it says:

Will forumer.com put any banner ads or popup ads on my board?
No. There will be no banner or popup ads on your board. |
Very odd. I will have to look into this.
I think the FAQ might soon be updated. At the bottom of every page it used to say "Forumer.com - Free Banner-less Forum Hosting..." or words to that effect.. whereas now the Banner-less has been removed...

A warning would have been nice. Not that it's a major problem, though.
The customer support forums are going CRAZY about it.
And, apparently having GOOGLE based banners slows your forum down, as it keeps a direct link open to Googles index all the time (or something). I read that it is bad.
This is fun!
i haven't noticed any difference in speed. Yet.
They're sneaky buggers though aren't they??
Hahaha, delicious irony in that one of the ads is for adware and anti-pop up software

Yes.
Most of the Google ads are GIG/TICKET based, so that clearly means Google has been, and will be, searching and indexing all the posts made in the forum.
Whether this is a good thing, I aren't quite sure yet. Hmm.
Not a pleasant surprise, really.
EDIT:
Quote from the FORUM HOSTS:
| QUOTE |
We'd like to announce that in order to cover some of Forumer's expenses we needed to place text ads on the IPB forums 1-5. I understand many of you will not like this, but unfortunately there is not much that can be done about this. This is absolutely necessary not only to continue running, but also to continue expanding and improving.
If you are one of those that prefers to NOT have any adverts, soon, we shall have a system in place where you can pay to remove the advert (more details on this when it becomes available)
I would like to remind you that Forumer.com is THE only forum hosting service that has has kept providing this service for more than a year without a single advertisement. I am proud of that fact and I belive we should all be thankful for that. |
I hope the ads don't make you cry.
Firefox Browser users can REMOVE THE ADS:Click
HERE to learn how to remove the ads! I followed the instructions and no longer see the Google adverts.
there's something about being watched by a giant, omnipotent, super-rich and invisible power. It's gonna be like living in America.
Jesus, im off to bed
when i first saw them [addies], i wondered if maybe RW had been "paid off" or SOLD oUT or, yno whatever the phraseology be. hum!
perhaps if EVERY SINGLE USER of this forum signed some sort of "lame" petitty-one explicitly stating they would NEVER EVER buy / use ANY of the products listed in or connected with the ADVURRRTISING, maybe theyed let RW // us "off".

You're like a wide-eyed child at times, Joincex.
ADVERTS: Ignore them all!
I use AdMuncher, and I didn't know anything about it until I saw this.
The AdMuncher removal log says: Server filter match - Src keyword: /show_ads.js [http://thevoid.4.
forumer.com/index.php?act=Post&CODE=02&f=6&t=249]
Does that help?

I don't think it's of any help to anyone who doesn't know what internetty stuff means. But it does mean that
you are saved from the annoying ads!
